Short-cut Thanksgiving Dressing
Making homemade dressing is a production and sometimes you just don't have time to go to all the trouble. This recipe is a short-cut way to making a great holiday or everyday dressing without all the fuss by adding a few fresh ingredients to store-bought stuffing mixes.
Ingredients:
1 box Stoffers cornbread stuffing
1 12oz package Pepperidge Farm Classic Herb stuffing mix
1 1/2 sticks of butter
4 cups chicken stock
4-5 celery stalks, cleaned and chopped
1 1/2 medium sweet onion chopped
1 teaspoon ground sage
salt and pepper
Preparation:
Wash celery and slice down the middle (lengthwise) and chop. Chop onions. Melt butter in a pan and add celery and onion. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
Mix Stoffers and Pepperidge Farm stuffing mix together. Pour butter & veggie mixture over the stuffing, add sage, salt, and pepper and mix together. Add stock 1 cup at a time, mixing well. You may need a little more or a little less of the chicken stock. Add just enough to thoroughly moisten the whole mixture but you don't want it mushy either. About 4 cups should do the trick.
Spread dressing into a 9x13 baking dish and bake for about 30 minutes until lightly browned on top and cooked through the center.
