Seared Tuna with Tropical Fruit Salsa
Who says you can't make gorgeous, healthy food from your little home kitchen for your little 'ol family? Not me! This tuna is cooked perfectly and the fruit salsa adds so much fresh, cool flavor. I use this same salsa over salmon too in a previous post.
Ingredients:
1 - 6-8 oz tuna filet (sliced into 2-3 ounce servings once done)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon butter
2 cups frozen tropical fruit
1/4 red onion diced
1/2 lime juiced
1/4 of a jalapeño diced
Preparation:
I cook because of my people! |
Salsa:
Put frozen fruit in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for about 45 seconds or just softened a little but still cold and firm
Chop the fruit and mix with the red onion, jalapeño, and lime juice.
Place salsa in fridge until time to serve
Tuna:
Add oil and butter to a small cast iron skillet and heat to screaming hot
Once smoking hot, add tuna steak and cook no more than 1 minute per side.
If it is a particularly thin steak, decrease cook time.
Let cool a couple minutes and then slice thin.
Tuna should be rare on the inside.
Serve on a plate topped with the salsa.
