Sloppy Joses

Sweet.  Spicy. Simple.  Sloppy.  A good lesson for you in this meal...you don't need a can, you can make it yourself!  This recipe is based off of one I got from the Pioneer Woman's cookbook years ago but we spice it up a little.  It's not a fancy dish but it's a family crowd pleaser!  It also freezes well if you have leftovers!

Ingredients:
2 pounds lean ground beef
1/2 sweet onion, diced
1/2 green pepper, diced
1 large jalapeño, seeds removed and diced (or a 4 oz can of diced jalapeño)
3 cloves minced garlic
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup spicy BBQ sauce (I use Sweet Baby Rays spicy - used Ketchup if you don't have any extra BBQ sauce available)
1 tablespoon mustard
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons chili powder
5-6 dashes Worcestershire
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Buns
Cheddar cheese or shredded Parmesan (optional and depending on how you like it served - see note at bottom)

Preparation:
Brown beef completely and drain off remaining fat returning to the pan.
Add diced onion, peppers, and garlic to the meat and cook over medium for about 10 minutes to cook veggies through.
Add ketchup and BBQ sauce, 1 can of water, and all other ingredients (except buns lol) to the pot.
Simmer for 20 minutes on low until sauce thickens.

Serving Options:
Per Gordon:  Serve open faced topped with shredded Parmesan, extra hot sauce, and sour cream on the side.
Per Mrs. Stephanie:  Serve on a toasted bun with a slice of cheddar cheese
